Scuttlebutt

by Frank Schlieve

Our sympathies to the CHARLES MENTKOWSKI family, the JOHN CONNOLLY family, the BOB SINKULAR family, the JACK FITZGERALD family and the JOHN BIALOZYNSKI family.  Chuck died on September 22nd after a short illness; he had met with the faculty and alumni at Marquette where he was a professor emeritus just a week before his death.  John Connolly’s wife Mary Lou passed away on November 26th.  Mary Lou was eighty-six years old.  She was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery.  Mildred Sinkular, sister of Bob, went to her eternal reward on December 7th.  She was ninety-three years old.  Mary “Molly” Fitzgerald, daughter of Jack, found repose on October 30th at the age of fifty-four.  She was cremated.  “Liz” Bialozynski was the wife of John and had been in ill health for an extended period.  Liz died on December 12th and was buried at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Greendale.  She was seventy-five years old and will be remembered as a gracious lady.

All of these fine people will be missed by their family and friends.  Please remember them in your prayers.  MARY KRIER, RED SCHELLER and BILL LEVINE motored to Prairie du Sac to visit BOB JOHNSON at the hospital.  They all reported that Bob is somewhat improved but has a long road to go toward recovery.  BOB THOEMKE now resides in Gulfport, Mississippi and recently received a copy of the TOTS Newsletter.  He called and advised that he and his wife Nancy are in good health and sends his best wishes to all of their friends in the Milwaukee area.

DEL TREICHLER and his wife Margie received an awful shock recently.  Their daughter Tracy was in Massachusetts on a business trip and became very ill.   She was rushed to U of M Hospital and remained in intensive care for five days.  Del and Margie caught a flight immediately to be with Tracy.  At their arrival they were told there was only a twenty percent chance of recovery.  After a few days the rate of recovery went up to forty percent.  She was transferred to a regular room and remained there until she was able to come home.  Tracy is home now and needless to say that Del and Margie and the rest of the family are keeping a close watch.  RUSS SEARING and his wife Barb were in

Black River Falls this summer and decided to play a round of golf.  They were ready to tee off when another couple asked if they could join them.  The conversation got around to where are you from and your former work place.  The other couple turned out to be GEORGE BREWER and his wife Irene.  They were living in Black River Falls but did not say if this was a permanent residence or just for the summer.  ELMER ALEXY and BOB DONOVAN got together a while back and re-hashed old times; it is good to get together with old and dear friends.  AL THOM celebrated his 96th birthday on Thursday November 9th.  He is still driving his car and we say a very Happy Birthday to you!  Congratulations to MIKE CESARIC and his wife on the celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary.

RICK FRANCO has found the Fountain of Youth.  Rick is still bowling and in two weeks had a 549 series and a 577 series.  Rick is now using a 12 pound ball.  Rick met DICK BAXTER at the flu clinic and Dick is now using a cane.  He can no longer drive or enjoy his favorite sport of bowling.  Congratulations to DAVID CREASEY and his new wife Teri.  They were married on December 7th at Graceland in Las Vegas, Nevada.  We thank CHUCK GOLWITZER for bringing GEN SITARZ to our monthly luncheons also to TOM ENGEL for bringing ERV LAUTER to our get together.  I had not seen Erv for a number of years and it was nice to go over old times.  Erv tells us that SIG HOEHNKE is in a nursing home but did not have any details.  DE LLLOYD PETERSON hurt his arm and shoulder while doing some work at his home in Florida.  The injury resulted in rotator cuff surgery and really upset Pete, as he cannot play in their softball league this year.  They have a 65 year plus league that plays from December thru March.  AL LEHMANN has replaced FRANK KIRSHBRAUN as the poster man on the George Webb paper place mats in their local restaurant.  We’re getting into new fields.  RED SCHELLER will be heading for Florida in March.  He will be at THE VILLAGES which is near the Orlando area.  Red plans on visiting BILL MAILE, BUZ LONGSTAFF and PAT WYNN who live in the area.

PEARL STUERMER, a long time rail employee, is doing volunteer work at The Milwaukee Lutheran Home.  Pearl informed us of the passing of JEANNETTE ULM who worked in the rail industry.  The Falk explosion was a horrible tragedy and a couple of our members were somewhat involved.  KAREN KACZMAREK had just driven by the Falk plant on her way in to work.  She was parking her car in the SIVA Truck Leasing lot and her car rocked with the explosion.  She thought it was an earthquake and people in the office thought the heating equipment blew up.  Their office is on 23rd and Saint Paul Avenue.  LEN ZEISS’ nephew works at Falk and was actually blown out of his shoes with the blast.  No physical damage but much mental anguish.   BONNIE CRAWFORD retired and plans on spending some time in Las Vegas.  Bonnie plans on playing some golf with the DEL BRAHMS who will also be spending some time there.  JERRY ALBRENT is improving a bit and is scheduled for a CAT scan shortly.  He sends best wishes to all.  By the way, DEL BRAHM said he is taking donations since he has two more children getting married this coming year.  Our sympathies to the family of RON SCHULZ who passed away recently.  May he rest in peace.

To all a Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year.
