An apple a day keeps the doctor away, as the old saying goes and it also may help to keep the neurologist away along with the cognitive decline that often accompanies Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.  The apple contains an antioxidant called “Quercetin”, which in a study showed that not only may quercetin help brain cells, but it may actually hurt cancer cells.  In the study the quercetin blocked some of the pathways by which tumors grow out of control.

Getting a Healthy Start

Data shows that children and adults who eat a healthy breakfast typically have a healthier diet than those who routinely skip breakfast.  The research also shows that children who skip breakfast don’t do as well in school.  They are more irritable, less focused, and more likely to become obese later in life.  Try yogurt mixed with granola, cottage cheese mixed with fruit or low fat waffles with fresh fruit.
