High Cholesterol, Weaker Bones. . .

Women with LDL (bad cholesterol) at 160 or above were twice as likely to have weakened bones as women with lower cholesterol. A study suggests that cholesterol accumulates near new bone cells and prevents them from growing. Cholesterol-lowering drugs seem to improve bone density.

 

Exercise. . .

A new study shows the key to a longer life is exercise. Years of research have hinted that the more you move the longer you'll live. If you are not exercising regularly, just moving around for 30 minutes 5 times a week can lengthen your life. Folks who are already active should pick up the pace.

 



Chocolate. . .

37% of all Americans prefer dark chocolate to white or milk chocolate.

 

Glucosamine. . .

The popular supplement glucosamine could do more than just ease arthritis knee pain. New research indicates that it may actually stop disease progression and possibly reverse it.

 

Gum. . .

Wrigley Gum sponsored a study which showed chewing gum flavored with plant oils can do more than sweeten the breath; it can kill germs in your mouth. Chewing "Big Red" a cinnamon flavored gum cut the germs in half because the gum contains cinnamon oil
