The Miracle Berry 

If you add one food to your diet this year make it blueberries.  The amazing blueberry has emerged as nature’s number one source of antioxidants among fresh fruits and vegetables.  If you want to slow the aging process just include ½ cup of blueberries into your diet every day.  There is also a possibility that that they can actually reverse the loss of short term memory that happens as we age.  Blueberries are also known as the “vision fruit”, reputed to help eye strain.

 

Water Workouts for Arthritis Patients 

Doing stretching and aerobic workouts in warm water may help relieve pain and improve daily function in people with knee or hip osteoarthritis. In a study just completed patients did aquatic exercises for different lengths of time and numbers of sessions per week.  In most of the studies participants were reevaluated after three months and most showed a marked improvement in mobility and did not suffer as much stiffness. Arthritis affects about 21 million Americans according to the Arthritis Foundation. 

 

Want to get a good night’s sleep? 

Then whatever you do, don’t talk on your cell phone before you go to bed.  A study at the University of Zurich found that exposing people to the electromagnetic fields from cell phones altered their brain waves during sleep thus resulting in sleep disturbances.  Use your regular home phone to make night time calls. 

Bad Breath…………Yikes! 

Million’s of people have bad breath and don’t even realize it.  To find out if you have this problem, do the following:  Lick the inside of your wrist, wait 4 seconds, then smell.  NOTE:  If bad breath does not go away with brushing and flossing, you may have gum disease or digestive problems; check these out with your health care provider.

 

 

If someone you are with gets stung by a bee do this:  First remove the stinger by gently scraping it away with a dull knife.  Next grab a tablet of Alka-Seltzer and moisten it slightly so it starts fizzing when you apply it to the sting.  Alka-Seltzer contains baking soda which reduces the inflammation and aspirin which relieves the pain.  The fizzing allows both substances to travel beneath your skin, providing immediate relief.
